It cannot be purchased in retail stores. The only way to obtain it is through second-hand websites and stores.
It is used by few Nerf blasters. It was one of the first types of ammunition and one of the longest running; it was the second type of Nerf ammunition ever produced, only behind the Nerf rocket. It varies in color although all variations are practically identical in performance. They are small foam balls that are shot mainly out of ball blasters; however, there are some blasters that can fire balls as well as darts.
Some variations of Ballistic Balls can be purchased separately, and some other companies also produce Ballistic Balls that can be used with Nerf blasters as well; Buzz Bee, Larami, and Lanard have all produced their own variation of the Ballistic Ball.
They are usually frowned upon by older Nerfers because they have a rather poor range when compared to other types of ammunition.
The Ballistic Ball was first introduced in 1989 with the Blast-a-Ball. For several years in the mid-1990s, the Ballistic Ball was not used with any Nerf blaster after the release of the 1995 Ripsaw. It was later re-used prominently throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, starting with the 1998 Pulsator.
The Ballistic Ball has been released with the following color schemes:
The Bungee Ball is a variation of the Ballistic Ball that was used with a certain blaster. It is the same as a yellow Ballistic Ball, except that there is a bungee within the ball. The range of the Bungee Ball was generally better than the regular Ballistic Ball, although now it is rare because there were no refill packs available.
Bungee Balls work with its patron blaster, the Bungee Blaster.
Ballistic Balls work with the following blasters:
Ballistic Ball refill packs could be purchased in the following sizes:
- 12 (comes with mesh bag and belt clip)
- Ballistic Balls can sometimes do some actual damage when fired at a very close range.
- The balls will sometimes bounce off other surfaces when shot at.
- Ballistic Balls resemble grenades when compared with other Nerf ammunition, so their launchers could be considered grenade launcher style blasters.
- The high-impact round from the RIVAL series could be considered a successor to the Ballistic Ball.
