It cannot be purchased in retail stores. The only way to obtain it is through second-hand websites and stores.
It comes packaged with three Mega Darts, a target, and a detachable dart holder.
The Lock 'n Load is a spring-powered single shot blaster that features some unique qualities. When cocked, the blaster's priming handle remains in that position and does not advance forward. While creating strength through blow-back, it does not significantly alter the blaster's performance. It also features a flat orange sight that pops up when the blaster is primed. There is an included dart holder which is placed onto the blaster below the muzzle; it holds up to two extra darts.
The Lock 'n Load was re-released in late 1998 with an updated packaging scheme. Performance remained unchanged.
The Lock 'n Load became highly sought after in the NIC due to its strength, design, modification capabilities, and comfortableness. The handle of the blaster is very comfortable, so much so that some Nerfers have removed Big Bad Bow handles, with which it shares a similar handle, and placing them on Nite Finders in order to replicate the design.
Reloading and firing
To reload the Lock 'n Load, place a single dart into the blaster's muzzle. Pull back the top part of the blaster to prime it.
Pull the trigger to fire.
