It cannot be purchased in retail stores. The only way to obtain it is through second-hand websites and stores.
It is the first Maverick packaged without Micro Darts; instead, it comes with six Whistler Darts and four Gear Up Whistler Darts. It also comes packaged with a XLR disc and a code that gives a sneak peak at the Vortex Proton.
Since the Vortex line has been released as of September 2011, the code will not work because the website it gives will go to the Nerf website's home page. Being part of the Gear Up Subseries, it features the black and orange paint.
Reloading and firing
To reload the Maverick, the user must first drop the turret by pushing the turret's button located on the left side of the blaster. When the turret is down, the user can place up to three darts in the barrels at a time, a total of six darts are loaded into the barrels. The turret must be placed back up into the blaster's shell; more skilled users can flip the turret up and into place with a quick flick of the wrist.
To prime the blaster, the user must pull slide back and let it return to its original position. Pull the trigger to fire a dart.
