History

The initial, first Super Soaker was invented by Lonnie Johnson in 1984; he later presented the idea to Larami in 1989, which led to the Power Drencher being produced and sold. Like the soaker, the brand was initially known as Power Drencher, and was renamed to Super Soaker in 1990; the iconic Super Soaker 50 and Super Soaker 100 models were the first to be introduced under the brand proper. An offshoot brand, Power Soaker, was formed in the same year. The Super Soaker brand featured solely air-pressured blasters, while the Power Soaker brand featured piston-powered blasters. This would continue until Power Soaker was dropped and merged into Super Soaker.

Super Soaker was owned by Larami for twenty years; in 2002, Hasbro bought and took over the Super Soaker brand. It remained a separate brand under Hasbro's power until it was merged into the Nerf brand in 2010, where it became Nerf Super Soaker, which it is currently marketed as.
