Details
Edit
It uses the water clip refill system. This blaster features a small tactical rail on the top of the blaster. The blaster also features a stub used to put shoulder stocks onto.
What is unique about this blaster is that it is one of the three Nerf battery powered water blasters. This makes extremely effective to dual-wield. It has its main power deriving from a peristaltic pump, which rotates and kneads the rubber inner tubing to produce a steady and continuous stream.
Contrary to popular belief, the Thunderstorm's battery compartment is fully rubber-sealed and waterproof, and can be submerged underwater for long periods of time.
History
Edit
It was re-released in 2012 as the Lightningstorm. While the same blaster, it came packaged with a shoulder stock, shield, and a water drum.
Color schemes
Edit
The Thunderstorm has been released with the following color schemes:
- Standard (white/dark blue/orange)
- Dark blue/yellow/orange
- Yellow/light blue/orange
- Lightningstorm (Dark blue/white/orange)
Value packs
Edit
A new Thunderstorm two-blaster blaster set was released as a Costco exclusive. [1] Called the "Face Off pack", it also includes four water clips colored similarly to the Face Off Thunderstorms.
Review
Edit
| Thunderstorm[2] | ||
| Small blaster | ||
| Category | Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Firing range | 5/10 | The Thunderstorm's range is unsurprisingly mediocre. This is because it is a motorized blaster, so the air/elastic pressure that is commonly used for good range is replaced by a quicker but less powerful motorized shot. It shoots around twenty feet maximum. |
| Accuracy | 6/10 | This blaster is somewhat accurate to a certain distance. At around ten to twelve feet, the stream breaks apart, hindering accuracy. |
| Reliability | 6/10 | This blaster takes a few seconds to fire after a fresh reload as it must charge. It also has an extremely poor stream, which is very weak. The blaster is rather noisy and also uses batteries, so it is not recommended for pool use. |
| Capacity | 6/10 | This blaster uses the water clip system, giving it nine ounces of water. |
| Final score | ||
| 6.5/10 | The Thunderstorm is overall not a powerful soaker by any means. Like most new Super Soakers, it is designed nicely but is severely lacking in power. The range, capacity, reliability and stream are all not strong points and are easily outclassed. Even a Point Break would be a better choice when it comes to range, size and reliability. | |
Trivia
Edit
- Because of its motorized operation, the Thunderstorm can be considered a spiritual successor to the popular Entertech water pistols, which were also battery-operated, from the 1980s.
