The Xcess is an X-Shot blaster that was released in 2012.

Details[]

The Xcess is a revolver-style blaster that fires both darts and discs. It features two cylinders that hold six darts each; these cylinders can be swapped between via manual force. The top-most cylinder auto-advances upon priming. A folding piece of plastic on top of the blaster covers where the discs are loaded and fired from. The priming mechanism primes both the disc and dart systems; a single trigger pull fires both ammunition types at once.

History[]

The Xcess was first announced in late 2011, alongside the Stalker and Vigilante. It was initially not going to utilize a disc-firing function, according to prototype images of the blaster, and was instead only going to fire darts. However, the disc-firing function was added to the blaster for finalized production. This is somewhat the opposite to what happened with the X-Shot Sidewinder, where the disc-firing function was present in prototype variants, but removed later on.

It was re-released within the year of its release as an Air Zone blaster. It would be re-released in 2013 under the X-Shot Excel and X-Shot Zombie series with boosted performance. Later that same year, it would be re-released back into the X-Shot line with further updated performance.

Trivia[]

  • The Xcess' name is more than likely a play on the word "excess", or the word "access". This could be due to the second barrel, giving the blaster an excess of darts, or ease of access to more darts.
  • Nerf may have taken inspiration from the Xcess for the Zombie Strike FlipFury, which also featured two swappable cylinders.
